Sometimes I look for a particular mineral because I like its shape, the wilderness of an unshaped mineral can be an excellent inspiration. Other times I know I need something smooth that will almost become one with the metal. Often times I just let the mineral guide me to the final result, not all has to be plan!
Color is also an important factor, I like to combine different minerals of different colors and create a different vibes with them. Bright colors, crystals and opaque minerals can mix in one piece or be treated individually, it all depends of the the feeling that they transmit.
But, what about the texture? This is probable the most important one, some minerals have the most amazing color and shape but they are too fragile to be used in a ring. The opposite can happen too, a mineral too hard that it's impossible to cut it into smaller pieces. It is very important to me to get to know the mineral I am working with, be able to know its weakness and strength so I can use it in the best way possible.
